Essential Oils & natural product uses in the colder months…
During the colder months it’s best to have some essential oils around the home to ease the seasonal complaints. We have our favourites that we rely on as much during our Winter as we do citronella in the Summer. Where possible we feel it’s best to stick with natural ingredients that have been used for centuries successfully.
For the common cold we like to have a bath with tea tree, eucalyptus & lemon diluted in either carrier oil such as grapeseed, pure salt crystals or even milk. Massaging around the chest, neck and sinus area with a blend of lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary in carrier oil such as jojoba can bring instant cheer.
Catarrh can respond to steam inhalation and the essential oils to use are rosemary, peppermint & tea tree. Just a drop of each, keep your eyes closed and inhale for up to 10 minutes.
Why not try one of the products from the Breathe-Easy range as a simple alternative, containing Eucalyptus & Peppermint to decongest stuffy heads & blocked noses, anti-bacterial Tea Tree to boost the immune system & comforting Lavender to soothe & protect. Available in a 10ml. Pure Essential Oil Blend to use for steam inhalation, popping a few drops on a hankerchief or adding to the bath, or the convenient new Fizziotherapy Tablets.
For chapped lips & dry skin use pure shea butter, 100% natural shea butter contains everything the skin needs in a similar way to the avocado containing all the food groups. Why use chemicals when we have great natural ingredients?
Feel like you have a cold sore around the corner then use a drop of geranium on a cotton wool bud and apply just to that area every day.
A dry cough can be so annoying, pamper yourself or even better ask someone to massage a blend of eucalyptus & thyme (again in a carrier oil) on your back and chest. For a cough with mucus add some tea tree to the above blend.
Vaporising essential oils during the colder months can be both beneficial to your environment when we are stuck indoors for longer periods and also create a warm, welcoming aroma. Our favourite blend we called Winter Drawers On, it is orange, cinnamon & a little pine and instantly see us reaching for the mulled wine and mince pie or hot chocolate. When you are concerned about all those germs then a super essential oil is Lemon Myrtle. It has all the properties of tea tree that has lots of followers but is a delight to vaporise as it smells of lemons.
